4 Tips for Maintaining Dewy Skin Through Even the Worst Winters

Cold weather means winter is just around the corner, and with that often comes dry skin and breakouts. Here are 4 tips to stay dewy and hydrated

Say Goodbye to Fall, and Hello To Winter

Fall is the season of pumpkin spice, beautiful scenery, and fantastic autumn fashion. But it also means that winter is just around the corner, and with the frigid weather often comes rough skin and seasonal breakouts. The lack of moisture in the air during the colder months dries out our skin, forcing our bodies to produce more sebum. This clogs our pores and creates the perfect environment for acne. With a bit of extra care, you can avoid all of this. If you’re not ready to say goodbye to your dewy skin this winter, follow these 4 steps:

The 4 Tips...

for Maintaining Dewy Skin!

  • Clear Skin Starts from the Inside
  • Moisturizer, Moisturize, Moisturize!
  • Maximize Your Skincare Routine
  • Use Occlusives at Night

Clear Skin Starts from the Inside

When combating dryness, it may be your instinct to run to Sephora. You know how we feel about that store anyways! Before you buy a new product, take a look at your habits. Even the best face creams will fail to make your skin glow if your body is dehydrated. Doctors recommend we drink 1oz for every 2lb of our body weight. Many of us don’t get enough water throughout the day, which can cause our skin to look dull, textured, or dry. If you’re properly hydrated and still not reaching your skin goals, it’s time to take a look at your routine!

Moisturizer, Moisturize, Moisturize!

The key to moisturized skin is, of course, moisturizer. Even if you have oily skin, it’s important to moisturize your skin often – at least every time you wash it. Without a quality face cream, your skin will work overtime to produce excess sebum, leaving you with even oilier skin and clogged pores. The right moisturizer won’t leave you feeling oily or tight, and it’s the first step towards dewy, hydrated skin this winter. If you wear makeup, you may even want to opt for a moisturizing foundation or BB cream instead.

Maximize Your Skincare Routine

It’s normal for your skin to have different needs depending on the season. Your winter skincare regimen should include a gentle non-drying cleanser, a hydrating moisturizer, and a combination of emollients and humectants. Humectants, like hyaluronic acid, attract water to the skin and hold it. Meanwhile, emollients, like mineral oil, seal the water into your skin. Together, they keep your skin feeling hydrated and protect it from the harsh winter air.

Use Occlusives at Night

Now that you’ve added an emollient and humectant, it’s time to incorporate an occlusive. Occlusives create a protective layer around the skin to keep it from losing moisture. An Ultra-Rich Comforting Cream is an excellent example of an occlusive moisturizer. But, if you’d prefer to use something you already own, shea butter is known for having occlusive properties. By using an occlusive before you sleep, you’ll prep your face to look fresh and moisturized in the morning. And when in doubt, you can always add Hyaluronic Acid for an extra moisture barrier and to keep your skin glowing.
