We are committed to asking questions of the conventional beauty industry so we can bring to light low-toxic salons. We make informed choices about brands and products, to refine and strengthen The Oh Daisey stamp of approval. We want to positively impact the industry and move it forward!

We ask questions and want to know what is in our beauty care products! That’s why we’ve created this 3-tier system to help you decide which products are right for you!

Our Product Ratings

Green Heart

We approve of this brand’s product and they contain zero toxins.

Yellow Heart

We approve of most of the ingredients in this brand’s products, they might contain some toxins. 

Red Heart

Proceed with caution and limit your use to this brand’s products as there may be toxins.

What We Do Not Recommend

Our mission drives us toward a standard definition of what clean beauty stands for and what it doesn’t. That’s why we have created a guideline to help you understand what is really in your products and what you need to look out for.

This Dirty List of ingredients complies with E.U standards which are much more strict than the US.  The Dirty List is over 2700 chemicals.

Aluminum

Different forms of aluminum such as powder or Chlorohydrate are toxic because of its solubility in water and the pH range, i high amounts it can cause oxidative stress in the brain, liver, and kidney.

BHA Butylated Hydroxyanisole

A preservative found in hair, face, body and cosmetics is linked to cancer which can cause skin irritations, and disrupts hormones.

BHT

A toluene - based preservatice found in hair, face, body, and cosmetics is linked to skin irritation.

Butoxyethanol

An alcohol found in household cleaning products like glass cleaner, liquid soaps, and sprays which can cause cancer, reproductive and hormone disruption, and organ toxicity.

Chemical Sunscreens

A UVA/UVB ray protector and ingredient stabilizer is linked to hormone disruption. Including: Benzophenone, Oxybenzone, and Octinoxate. Limited data on Avobenzone.

Coal Tar

A by-product of coke and coal is a carcinogen and is used in anti-dandruff products and as a colorant.

Cyclic Silicones

Include Cyclotetrasiloxane (D4), Cyclopentasiloxane (D5), Cyclohexasiloxane (D6), and Cyclomethicone used in the environment and can build up in the food chain, are linked to reproductive, developmental toxicity, and endocrine disruption.

1,4 - Dioxane

A contaminate in products that sud that is linked in cancer, organ toxicity, and reproductive harm.

EDTA

Calcium disodium, tetrasodium, and Trisodium are binding agents found in Moisturizers, Cleansers, Hair Color, Soap and Body Wash, Foundation, and Eye Makeup linked to organ toxicity or irritation.

Ethanolamines

Include DEA/ TEA/ MEA / ETA may be contaminated with chemicals like Nitrosamines found in Moisturizers, Cleansers, Hair Color, Soap and Body Wash, Foundation, and Eye Makeup which are linked to cancer.

Formaldehyde

Including DMDM Hydantoin, Diazolidinyl Urea, and Quaternium-15 found in bath products, nail polish, and synthetic eyelash glues can be linked to cancer, neurotoxicity, reproductive harm, organ toxicities, and allergies.

Hydroquinone

A metabolite of Benzene (carcinogen) is typically used for skin lightening reasons, causes skin irritations, linked to cancer, and organ toxicity.

Methyl Cellosolve or 2 Methoxyethanol

A solvent banned in the EU which is added to perfumes, can cause skin irritation and may cause effects on the central nervous system, blood, bone marrow, kidneys, and liver.

Methyl chloroisothiazolinone and Methylisothiazolinone

Preservative banned in the EU from cosmetic product can cause skin allergies and irritation and may be linked to organ toxicity, and neurotoxicty.

Mineral Oil

A by-product of refining crude oil found in moisturizers is linked to cancer, organ toxicity, and allergies.

Nanoparticles

Typically not labeled ingredients, used in uv protection, UV protection, penetration and texture enhancing, ingredient stabilization, and preservatives is linked to organ toxicity, DNA and cell damage, and reproductive harm.

Nitromusks and Polycyclic Musk

Including Nitromusks and Polycyclic Musks, typically in fragrances linked to endocrine disruption and environmental concern.

Parabens

Including Butylparaben, Isopropylparaben, Methylparaben have a possible contamination with 1,4 dioxane and ethylene oxide found in hair, face, body, and cosmetics are Plasticizers, Solubilizers, Denaturants linked to hormone disruption, reproductive harm, organ toxicity, cancer, and allergies.

Perfluorinated Compund

PFAS or PFCs are 3000 Highly Fluorinated Compounds used in many different types of products because of their oil-, stain-, and water-repellent properties and cannot break down in the environment. They are linked to cancer, hormone disruption, organ toxicities, and obesity. Including "Perfluor" and "Polyfluor".

Petrolatum and Paraffin

Including Mineral. oil, Paraffin wax, Liquid Paraffin and other derivatives of petroleum are unsustainably sourced and possible PAH contamination. Linked to cancer, organ toxicity, and allergies.

Phenoxyethanol

Formulations using >1%. A Preservative and Fragrance Ingredient that can be linked to organ toxicity.

Phthalates

Are Plasticizers, Solubilizers , and Denaturant chemicals hiding in fragrance s and are linked to hormone disruption including endocrine and reproductive.

Polyethylene glycol (PEG)

Are Thickeners, Solvents, Softeners, Moisture-carriers, and Penetration Enhancers and can be contaminated with 1,4 dioxane and ethylene oxide. Linked to endocrine disruption and reproduction harm.

Propanol

A pH Adjuster and Ingredient Stabilizer found in hair, face, and body cosmetics is linked to cancer, reproductive harm, and organ toxicity.

Resorcinol

Are Colorants, fragrance ingredients, and Acne therapy chemicals found in hair dyes and styling products are linked to endocrine disruption and organ toxicity.

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate and Sodium Laureth Sulfate

Are Surfactant, Fragrance ingredient, and Acne therapy chemicals found in Shampoo, Cleanser Soap, Exfoliators, Body Wash, and Bubble Bath with possible contamination with 1,40-dioxane. Linked to organ toxicity and allergies.

Toluene

A solvent that is toxic to the immune system, may cause birth defects, and usually found in nail polishes.

Triclosan and Triclocarban

Are antibacterials used in personal care and home-cleaning products and are linked to hormone disruption.

Heavy Metals

Lead, Nickel, Cadmium, and other heavy metals are common at trace levels in both natural mineral pigments and synthetic colorants. In small amounts they are low-toxic but they build up over time and can become harmful.

Ethoxylated Ingredients

Ethylene Oxide, 1,4-Dioxane, Ceteareth-20, SLES, Ammonium Laureth Sulfate (most ingredients ending in "eth") Emulsyfying wax, Cetearyl Alccohol, Polysorbate 60, Ceteareth-20, PEGA, Polysorbate-20. Can be carcinogenic and harmful to health.
