What It Does
Improves texture, retains moisture, dissolves ingredients, and helps oil and water mix.
Why Oh Daisey Rates It This Way
Widely used and generally considered safe in cosmetics when properly manufactured. The primary concern is that PEGs are produced through ethoxylation and may contain trace impurities such as ethylene oxide and 1,4-dioxane if not adequately purified. Skin penetration also increases as molecular weight decreases and when applied to damaged skin.
